A: The World Expo has witnessed the birth of inventions such as the telephone and television.
In 1851, the Great Exhibition saw the introduction of many advanced industry products as a result of the Industrial Revolution. Several automated machines were presented, including the chainsaw, high-power steam engine, steam tractor, steam ship and crane.
In 1855, the Paris Expo exhibited new construction materials such as concrete, steel, aluminum and rubber. When the city hosted another expo in 1889, people waited in line for hours to catch a glimpse of the recording device invented by Thomas Edison. This is credited with leading to the birth of the gramophone, or record player.
At the Chicago Expo in 1892, the application of electricity was shown off to visitors and, years later, this knowledge was put to use for the debut of the recorder, video camera and television at the 1939 World Fair in New York. Nylon and plastic products also emerged.
