China urges parties concerned to show restraint

BEIJING - China Monday urged all parties concerned with the Korean Peninsula situation to exercise maximum restraint to prevent an escalation in tensions.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the remarks when commenting on reports the Republic of Korea (ROK) wrapped up live-firing drills on a western border island Monday.
According to the reports, there was no exchange of fire between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the ROK.
Jiang said China has taken note of recent developments in the Korean Peninsula situation, adding that peace and stability on the peninsula is in the interests of all relevant parties.
"We strongly call on all concerned parties to act in a responsible manner and to refrain from escalating tensions," Jiang said.
