Vice-premier vows to advance ties with Singapore

BEIJING - Chinese Vice-Premier Li Keqiang met with Singapore's minister mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Monday and pledged to advance bilateral ties to a new level.

China and Singapore have increased mutual understanding and trust and conducted fruitful cooperation in economy and trade, science and technology, culture, education and other areas, Li said.
Now, with the global economic restructuring, China is capable of achieving long-term stable and rapid growth by changing its development mode and increasing dependence on its own large market, Li noted.
"This is beneficial to east Asian nations," he said.
China and Singapore enjoy geographical proximity and many opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation, Li said, adding that China will work with Singapore to expand pragmatic cooperation in various areas.
Lee spoke highly of China's achievements since its reform and opening up process began more than three decades ago.
He also expressed satisfaction about the sound development of Singapore-China relations.
He said he was glad to see the two nations keeping close cooperation and strengthening bilateral exchanges.
He expressed confidence about the bright future of China and Singapore-China ties.
Lee visited Shanghai on Saturday to inaugurate the national pavilion of Singapore at the World Expo.
