Coal mine accident traps nine in northwest China

LANZHOU - A coal mine accident trapped nine people underground in northwest China's Gansu Province Tuesday, local authorities said.

The accident took place at about 8:30 a.m. at a shaft of the Jinhe Coal Mining Company in the suburbs of Lanzhou, the provincial capital, the Gansu Provincial Works Safety Administration said in a statement.

The administration said the accident was related to gas, but did not specify the nature of the accident.

No further details were provided.
