The 4th Parachute Games opens

The Parachute Games of the 4th All-China Games opened in Fuyang, Anhui province, on May 8, 2010, drawing some 230 participants from 11 delegations around China.

The Games, a pageant for China's non-Olympic sport events, will start in May in the capital Hefei and Fuyang will also play host. The event, which is to last for seven days, is divided into four categories: stunt jump, accuracy jump, figure parachuting and relative work.

More than 5,000 spectators swarmed to the Fuyang Sports Center to view the opening ceremony, which started at 8:30 am on Saturday.

Outside the sports center, about 100,000 city dwellers stood along the streets to cheer for the grand event.

According to Yang Jie, a staff member from the State General Administration of Sports, which co-sponsors the 4th All-China Games with Hefei people's government, the event will not only bring glory to the country, but also to the city itself.

Wang Hao, deputy director of the information office of Fuyang people's government, said the city will make good use of the current event to promote itself to develop better and faster, and to forge an atmosphere of mass keep fit.

Wang Jianming, an athlete from the Beijing delegation, participated in the accuracy jumping performance at the opening ceremony. He said doing every jump and enjoying the great pleasure of parachuting is his great wish at the current event.

The 11 delegations are from Beijing and Shanghai municipalities, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Shanxi and Anhui provinces, the Aero Sports Federation of China and the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
