HEFEI: Anhui Governor Wang Sanyun said attracting investment from home and abroad must be successful to push the province’s economic and social undertakings forward.

Speaking at the 10th executive meeting of Anhui provincial government on Tuesday here, he said the province attracted 136.39 billion yuan ($20.7 billion) from other areas on the Chinese mainland in the first quarter, an increase of 61.9 percent over the same period of last year. At the same time, the province approved 58 new foreign-invested enterprises in the province, a jump of 41.5 percent. Also, foreign businessmen actually injected $1.15 billion into Anhui in the first three months, a climb of 18.5 percent.

He noted said luring investment should develop along with the construction of the Demonstration Area for Industrial Transfer to Cities along the Anhui Section of the Yangtze River, which was approved by the State Council on Jan 12, 2010, and promoting the National Technological Innovation Project, initiated in Nov 2009 and of which Anhui is one of the three pilot provinces.
