Four children drown in E China

NANCHANG - Four primary school students drowned in a reservoir in east China's Jiangxi Province Monday afternoon, local authorities announced Tuesday.

Bodies of the children aged between 9 and 12 from Xiaojia Village, Raofeng Township of Poyang County, were recovered from a reservoir near the village Tuesday morning, the county government said in a statement.

The dead were two boys and two girls from two primary schools, said Duan Hejun, the township Party chief.

The township and county governments have offered the families of the deceased 10,000 yuan ($1,465) for each death.

An investigations is being carried out into the deaths.

Monday was the last day of the three-day Labor Day holiday.
