Father evicts son with 10m for gamble addiction

A man from Hangzhou of Zhejiang province gave 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) to have his relationship with his son severed after finding out the son was an online gambler who lost a lot of money and the family failed to persuade him to quit.

The son then once again gambled all his money away, the zjol.com.cn reported Tuesday.

The 36-year-old son, surnamed Lin, went with a friend, Shao, in April 2009 to gamble in Macao, where he saw his friend win 150,000 yuan within half an hour from the original amount of 50,000 yuan.

After returning to Zhejiang, Lin started gambling with the help of Shao through an online video system, which enabled him to gamble just like in Macao's casinos by sitting in front of his computer.

Lin lost all of his savings of more than 1 million yuan days after he started gambling. He then demanded more money from his father and threatened to end his relationship with his family. His father got annoyed and gave him 10 million yuan and turned him out of the family. But Lin lost all the money again in a very short space of time.

Lin was arrested by the police when he started destroying things in his father's company in a bid to ask for more money. His friend Shao proved to be the head of a gambling group which had illegally earned more than 10 million yuan by organizing online gambling. Shao and other 8 suspects were also later arrested by the police.
