A man surnamed Zhang, around 50, has been dwelling in a small deserted cave near an expressway in Tongchuan, North China’s Shaanxi province, for five years, unwilling to reveal his identity to police, Huashang News reported.
The small cave, about 1.3-meter high and 1 meter wide, has a quilt and a yellow coat hanging outside. It was built when the road was under repair, a villager said.
Zhang is said to be a warm-hearted person, never hesitating to help villagers. He sustains his life by picking through leftovers in the nearby service area of the expressway and with assistance from villagers.
Police had talked to him many times to try to persuade him go back home and register his residence, but in vain.
