Founded in 1949, ACWF is a mass organization and it works together with international partners to safeguard the rights and interests of women and promote equal opportunities.

Fiji's Ministry of Social Welfare Permanent Secretary Govind Sami said on Wednesday the Fiji Women's Federation which was approved by Cabinet last year will continue to work together with international women organizations such as ACWF to provide opportunities to women in rural areas to contribute towards economic development and have sustainable source of income.

"We are grateful to All China Women's Federation for this timely assistance to empower and encourage women into income generating projects. Through this kind assistance we will see a lot of women in rural areas benefit and earn sustainable source of income. Added to 200 sewing machines distributed in 2009, this project is a milestone achievement in the development of women to make financial savings and also generate funds for their organizations," Sami said.

"This development ties well with the Government's Roadmap 2009-2014 to reduce poverty and encourage economic growth in the country.

The delegation headed by Meng Xiaosi, vice-president of the ACWF,is also expected to meet the women groups in the western and central divisions to share ideas and opportunities to see development of women in Fiji.

Sami said this development relates to Fiji's commitment to Women's Plan of Action (2010-2019) which will further progress the efforts by the government in achieving the objectives of the Beijing Platform for Action.
