HANGZHOU - Six fishermen are missing after their boat was hit by a Maltese steamship Monday night near Taizhou city in east China's Zhejiang province, rescuers said Tuesday.

The 30-meter-long boat, registered in Wenzhou city, Zhejiang province, was fishing 20 nautical miles (37.4 kilometers) east of Dacheng Island when it was hit by the 169-meter-long, Maltese-registered vessel MELINAI at 8:15 pm Monday, said Xiao Jun, captain of a coast guard rescue vessel.

As of 6:30 pm Tuesday, more than six government-dispatched ships and over ten fishing boats were searching for the missing fishermen.
