ZHENGZHOU - A court in central China's Henan Province broadcasted a trial live online on Wednesday amid the province's efforts to invite public scrutiny of its judicial system.

Netizens across China could watch the land lease dispute trial between the Wanghuzhai village committee and Changyuan County No.1 Construction Co. live at chinacourt.org.

The trial opened Wednesday morning at Henan Higher People's Court.

Unless prohibited by law, all the trials in Henan should be broadcasted live online by the end of 2011 to ensure the public's right to oversee the judicial system and make it more transparent, said Zhang Liyong, head of the higher court.

The 81,680 judgement documents of Henan's courts had all become available on the Internet, he added.

The court would screen other trials live online in mid-April. By the end of June, online live broadcasting would be implemented in Henan's intermediate courts, said Jiang Xiaoping, head of the court's equipment department.

Eventually, all the courts would broadcast their trials live online by 2011, Jiang added.

"I was a little nervous. I had to be very careful not make any mistakes as people were watching," said Zou Bo, the trial's chief judge.

The court's servers could support 3,000 netizens watching at the same time, Jiang said.
