DAR ES SALAAM - Security measures should be strengthened to protect the safety of Chinese investors in Tanzania, a senior Chinese embassy official said on Sunday.
Fu Jijun, political counselor of the Chinese embassy in Tanzania, made the remarks at the mourning ceremony held at Kariakoo market in Dar es Salaam for the death of a Chinese businessmen killed inside his house by bandits on February 28.
He also called on local Chinese community to take practical measures to protect their own safety and property as security has deteriorated recently in the country's capital.
In a statement, the Chinese Business Chamber of Tanzania strongly demanded the Tanzanian police enhance investigation, calling on the government to ensure a safer environment for investment, which is the common concern of the Chinese community here.
There are more than 100 Chinese companies doing business here in Tanzania with an accumulated direct investment of more than $200 million in construction, textile, agriculture, medicine and infrastructure.
