SEOUL: South Korea's chief nuclear negotiator Wi Sung-lac is expected to visit China this week, Seoul 's Yonhap News Agency reported Monday.
During his two-day trip in Beijing, which will begin on Tuesday, Wi will meet with China's special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs Wu Dawei, Wi was quoted as saying.
The two will discuss current conditions of the region, including the two countries' efforts to resume the stalled six- party talks on the denuclearization of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and the recent visit by the DPRK's Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Gye-gwan to China, the official said.
Wu, the former Vice Foreign Minister, was appointed as special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs on February 10. Beijing's Foreign Ministry said that he would be in charge of the six-party talks and related issues.
Kim visited China earlier this month at the invitation of Wu. The two sides exchanged views on China-DPRK relations, the six- party talks and issues of common concern, according to the ministry. The six-party talks, launched in 2003 but stalled last April, involve the DPRK, South Korea, China, Japan, Russia and the United States.
