BEIJING: Most part of northern China will see snowfall with sharp temperature drops over the coming weekend, while drizzle would continue in southern part of the country, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) forecasted Friday.

now and sleet would hit many northern areas in the next three days as strong cold current moves east, while the Ili River Valley in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region would face heavy snow, according to the national weather observatory.

It also forecasted that temperatures in those areas would go down by four to six degrees centigrade, with some areas experiencing a temperature decline of eight to ten degrees centigrade.

Cold current would turn active in the next ten days, bringing further snow and lower temperature in more parts of China, said the CMA.

Parts of south China would see freezing rain from February11 to 12, while temperature of most parts of China would drop six to eight degrees centigrade, it said.

The cold snap with ice and snow would bring more pressure to the travel rush during the upcoming Spring Festival, and the government should take early measures to ensure travel safety, warned experts with the CMA.
