NAIROBI: Visiting Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun on Sunday met President of the Comoros Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi in Moroni, capital of the Indian Ocean island nation, and both sides pledged to deepen bilateral relations, according to reports from the city.
During the meeting, Zhai said that although China and the Comoros are geographically far apart with different national circumstances, the two peoples have had a long traditional friendship, with all-around cooperation having fully developed since the two sides established diplomatic ties 35 years ago.
China hopes that on the basis of their 35-year friendship, the two countries could further consolidate mutual political trust so as to enhance cooperation in all areas, bringing the bilateral relationship to a higher level.
Sambi told Zhai that cooperation between his nation and China has set a good example for cooperation between developing countries.
Sambi expressed gratitude to China for its significant contribution to the social and economic development of the Comoros by providing unselfish assistance to his country over the past years.
The Comoros always sees China as the most trustworthy friend, he said.
He also reaffirmed that his country would adhere to the one-China policy, strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China and promote coordination on international affairs to deepen bilateral ties.
