7 held over fatal stabbing of Xinjiang waiter

SHENZHEN: Police in south China's Guangdong Province said Thursday they have detained seven men allegedly in connection with the death of a restaurant employee from northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in a brawl Wednesday night.

The conflict happened at around 9:20 p.m., when the seven suspects had a brawl with a waiter named Tursun for a trifle, in a Muslim-style restaurant in the Futian District of Shenzhen City, officials with the Shenzhen City Public Security Bureau said.

One of the seven, surnamed Dong, seriously injured Tursun with a folding knife, the officials said.

Tursun was rushed to the Futian District People's Hospital, where he died later after failing to response to emergency treatment, they said.

Police captured the seven people in wee hours on Thursday after they fled the site, the officials said.

Police are making further investigation into the case.
