Building skyscrapers 'no big deal' for villagers

Huaxi village will invest 6 billion yuan ($878 million) to build a 118-floor and 538-meter high building in the next 12 years to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2021, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

According to previous reports, a 74-floor building with a height of 328 meters will be put into operation in 2011, the 50th anniversary of Huaxi village, jiangyin of Jiangsu province. It is estimated to rank 15th among high skyscrapers in the world.

"Building high-risese saves land resource and we do have enough money," said Wu Xie'en, head of the village, "The 118-floor building needs an investment of 250 million yuan ($36.6 million) per year, which is no big deal for us," he added.

Huaxi village is dubbed as “the No. One Village in China” that used to undergo poverty in 1960s but set up the first rural comprehensive development company that went public in 1999, with a yearly sales of 40 billion yuan ($5.8 billion)
