Xinjiang back online, restrictions remain

Internet services in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region will resume from Monday following five months of closure after the riots.

However, residents in Xinjiang are only allowed to visit and from today. Other internet services, international long distance calls and text message will resume gradually in near future, according to the website of the Xinjiang administration.

The websites and mobile phone services were shut down as a result of the Xinjiang"7.5" riots which started on July 5 and led to hundreds of deaths.
