BEIJING: China's first people-to-people diplomacy organization celebrated its 60th anniversary here on Wednesday.
China People's Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), founded in December 1949, is the first of its kind devoted to people-to-people diplomacy after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Wang said the CPIFA has made great contribution to promoting understanding and the friendship between Chinese people and other peoples around the world.
"As the international community gives more attention than ever to China's development and its role, diplomacy plays an increasingly prominent part in enhancing reform and development and maintaining national stability, " he said.
Participants at the celebration also watched a video clip from which the former and incumbent world leaders including Tony Blair, Lee Kuan Yew, hailed CPIFA's importance in facilitating foreigners' understanding about China and its people.
The CPIFA's objective is to conduct research on the international situation, global issues and foreign policy, and carry out exchanges with statesmen, scholars, research institutions and social organizations of various countries.
