A province in China has become the first to make death by lethal injection standard practice for all condemned criminals, the Higher People’s Court of Liaoning province in northeast China announced Wednesday.

An unnamed official confirmed the news saying lethal injection could reduce the fear and suffering of criminals and also help preserve the body of the deceased. Some cities in Liaoning have already acquired execution vehicles others have set up lethal injection rooms. Execution vehicles will be sent, when required, to the areas of Intermediate People’s Courts with fewer death penalty cases.

A spokesman for the Higher People’s Court said the court will formulate a strict system to make sure the procedure for administering the lethal injection is accurate, the report said.

Some other provinces and municipalities are also planning to implement the lethal injection system in near future.
