Detective Sergeant Trevor Beatson of Kaitaia Police said search warrants were executed Wednesday night around the Far North area, the New Zealand Press Association reported on Thursday.

Raids on Kaitaia homes found foreign currency and personal items belonging to the Chinese tourists.

The four men, aged 19, 20, 22 and 25, appeared in Kaitaia District Court on Thursday charged with aggravated robbery.

Beatson said the victims were happy with the arrests, which police had been keen to execute before the tourists left New Zealand.
