Expo tickets for individuals on sale on July 1

SHANGHAI: Tickets for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai will go on sale to individuals Wednesday, said event organizers on Monday.

The tickets will be sold by China Mobile, China Telecom, Bank of Communications and China Post in 2,796 outlets. People could also buy tickets online or by telephone, said Chen Xianjin, deputy director of Shanghai World Expo Affairs Coordinative Bureau.

Blue tickets for the fair's opening and closing and special dates -- May 1 to 3, October 1 to 7 and 25 to 31 -- cost 200 yuan (US$29.4).

Yellow tickets for regular fair days cost 160 yuan (US$23.5).

Chen said buyers don't have to bring their ID cards to get the tickets and there is no limit as how many can one person buy at one time.

He estimated that about 62 million tickets will be sold.

The Shanghai World Expo organizers hope to attract participation of 200 countries and international organizations.

Research shows that a total of 70 million people will visit Shanghai during the 184-day event and the daily number of visitors may reach 800,000.

The sale of group tickets started on March 27. So far, nearly three million group tickets have been sold.
