A woman died when a bridge collapsed in Tieli, northeast China's Heilongjiang province, local government said in a news conference on Monday.

The bridge over the Hulan River fell at 2:34 this morning. A total of 18 people have been rescued after their vehicles fell into the river. Four of the five people injured were out of danger in the hospital, said Li Qingsheng, deputy mayor of Tieli.

An overloaded truck and heavy downpour are to be blame for the accident, initial investigations show.

The bridge was built in 1973.
