Rescue work starts after NE China bridge collapse

HARBIN: Rescuers have begun combing a river in northeast China after part of a road bridge collapsed early Monday, sending vehicles plunging into the water below.

No casualties were yet confirmed from the collapse of the bridge spanning the Hulan River in Tieli City, Heilongjiang Province, Yichun City Government confirmed Monday.

The collapse occurred at 2:34 am on one side of the Xida Bridge, and at least six passing trucks fell into the river.

Police are investigating the cause of the incident.

Tieli City is under the administration of Yichun City.
