Chinese, Turkmen presidents pledge to boost cooperation

Berdymukhamedov said China is Turkmenistan's "most important and reliable" cooperative partner, pointing out that the two countries have carried out sound cooperation in the energy, transportation, telecommunications and textile sectors.

For his part, Berdymukhamedov said "energy cooperation constitutes an important part of our bilateral cooperation and is an integral part of global energy safety."

Turkmenistan is willing to give new impetus to bilateral ties by maintaining cooperation in politics, trade and security, he added.

Berdymukhamedov also hailed the just-concluded Beijing Olympic Games and Hu responded by thanking him for his country's support for the event.

Turkmenistan is the final stop on Hu's three-nation tour. He first visited the Republic of Korea before going to Tajikistan, where he attended the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a regional body that groups China, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
