Lebanon pledges $75,000 for China's quake areas

BEIRUT  -- The Lebanese government decided Saturday to donate 75,000 US dollars in aid for the victims of an devastating earthquake that hit southwestern China last month.

Rola Nur Din, foreign affairs advisor for Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Fouad Seniora, informed Chinese Ambassador Liu Zhiming of the Lebanese government's decision via a telephone call.

Liu expressed thanks for Lebanon's assistance for China's quake relief efforts.

An 8.0-magnitude earthquake jolted southwest China's Sichuan province on May 12, killing at least 69,181 people, according to official figures.
