A hospital in Guangdong province sparked controversy recently by building a shrine to Buddha in its outpatient building.
Hospital staff say that the shrine offers therapeutic benefits to patients and their families.
Some local residents, however, interpret the construction of the shrine as a sign that the hospital lacks confidence in the efficacy of modern medical treatment.
Each day the shrine attracts a large number of local pilgrims.
