China to donate $1.92 million to WHO

GENEVA  -- The Chinese government will donate $1.92 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to support its work in disease prevention and health services, according to an agreement signed on Sunday.

The agreement was signed by Chinese Health Minister Chen Zhu and WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan at the Chinese Mission to the UN Office in Geneva.

The voluntary donation will be used to support WHO's activities in epidemic and chronic disease prevention, nutrition and food safety, health services and the development of medical products and technologies, the agreement said.

In the past two years, the Chinese government has donated more than 9 million dollars to WHO to support its work in various fields, according to the Chinese Mission to the UN Office in Geneva.
