The desire to help the survivors of the quake has spread around the world. People living far away continue to send donations to earthquake victims.

After receiving an update on quake victims from Chinese Ambassador, Zhang Qiyue, Belgium's Chinese communities showed their concerns.

Jiang Nanying, president of Women's Federation of Belgium, said, "Where there're people affected by calamity, there're helping hands all around the world. This is one of virtues of Chinese people. We all do our bit. We all contribute our efforts."

Also on Wednesday, overseas Chinese in Washington, D.C. held a fund-raiser. Liu Guanyuan, of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, attended, and delivered a speech.

Liu Guanyuan said, "Overseas Chinese in the United States have been with the quake victims since the time of the catastrophe Monday. We feel exactly what those victims feel."

Within just an hour, cash donated by compatriots in America had reached over twenty thousands US dollars. The money raised on behalf of the victims was turned over to the Chinese Embassy.

The Overseas Chinese Association in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, also mounted efforts to help the victims. At a meeting Wednesday, participants donated more than forty thousand Brazil Reais, or over twenty thousand US dollars.
