BEIJING-- The Ministry of Justice issued an emergency notice on Tuesday urging judiciary departments in quake-stricken areas to mobilize personnel to save injured police and prisoners.
Judiciary departments, especially those in the disaster areas, should do their best to save the injured and protect people's safety and property, the notice said.
Police should be mobilized to assist local governments to supply food, medicine and drinking water and help transport those items, plus tents and warm garments, to prisons and labor camps, according to the notice.
Judiciary personnel should ensure that injured police, workers and prisoners had sufficient food, clothes, clean drinking water and temporary shelter, it says.
The notice also emphasized the importance of safety and stability of the prisons, urging supervisory measures be taken to avoid disorder in correctional facilities.
Sanitation measures should also be taken to curb the spread of diseases and prevent emergencies, the notice said.
It added that prison dormitories, cafeterias, roads and telecommunication facilities must be repaired as soon as possible to ensure the restoration of transportation, power and water supply and telecommunications.
The notice also urged judiciary organs in quake-affected areas to make disaster relief work a priority and do all possible to solve problems for people and alleviate their suffering.
