XI’AN -- A two-day event celebrating the 100th anniversary of China's higher education in electrical engineering concluded Tuesday at Xi'an Jiaotong University in this capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Shanghai Jiaotong University, the event drew more than 2,000 people in the country's electrical engineering sector as well as people from overseas.
In 1908, China's first electrical engineering major was set up by Tang Wenzhi (1865-1954), a famous educator, at the Shanghai Higher Industrial School, which was the predecessor of the Jiaotong University, during the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The major marked the beginning of China's education in electrical engineering which has trained countless talented personnel for the country's electrical engineering and electronic industries, said Zheng Nanning, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University.
The event recalled the history of China's 100-year electrical engineering education, its present situation and development trends.
