Bird tests positive for H5N1 in Hong Kong

HONG KONG -- The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said Friday that a Peregrine Falcon found in Ma Wan was confirmed H5N1 positive.

The sick bird was found and collected on March 8 in the bushes near Pak Lai Road, Park Island at Ma Wan, the New Territories. It died the same day.

A department spokesman reminded people to observe good personal hygiene, saying that they should avoid personal contact with wild birds or live poultry and clean their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them.
