KUNMING -- Police in a southwest China city have installed cameras in their caps under a pilot program to help them record evidence when dealing with emergency.

The new equipment has been adopted by the Liangyuan Police Station in the Xishan Public Security Branch in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province.

The set includes a hand-held liquid crystal display screen and mobile hard disc for storage of recorded data, as well as a camera mounted on the cap.

Chinese police have long had difficulty in collecting evidence when dealing with mass incidents or disputes, said a policeman at the station who declined to be identified.

The equipment, which can record the whole handling process, will help solve the problem and prevent attacks on police, he said.

The practice will also force police to conduct themselves in a proper manner and ensure accuracy and fairness in their work, the source said.

If the technology proves effective, the equipment will be promoted in Kunming.
