A three-year-old ox at a village near Tieling, Liaoning province, has grown to 1,500 kg, making it the largest and heaviest one of its species ever recorded in the province.

"I have to feed the cattle 50 yuan ($7) worth of cornstalk and other fodder every day because its appetite is so big," Chang Jiujiang, the farmer, said. "Still, I'm reluctant to sell it to a slaughterhouse for money."

Experts said it is not worth it to maintain an ox at such cost. But Chang and his family like the huge beast so much that they would rather keep it.

"We are all proud of having such a huge friend," they said.
