Xiao, 32, a farmer in Xinjin county, Sichuan province, has been treating his 400 chickens to a daily routine of music performances.

"I play music on the suona, a kind of Chinese woodwind instrument, to wake them up in the morning, play rock music at noon to help them control their weight and then play something light in the evening so they can sleep," he said.

Xiao said that when he turns on the rock music, the chickens dance to the rhythm.

He said he also puts blinders on the birds so they do no start fighting with one another.
