A migrant worker in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is collecting soil samples from all over the country to make a "map" of China before next year's Olympic Games.

Zheng Xiaoliang set up a website, www.chinaretu.cn, in March to promote his idea and netizens have responded positively. To date, online friends have mailed soil samples from 650 counties to Zheng.

There are more than 2,800 county-level areas in the country, so Zheng's not even quarter of the way to finishing yet.

Even so, he's confident of finishing in time and plans to give the soil map to the Beijing Olympic Games Organization Committee as a present.
