An ornery ostrich has found his calling as the guard of a fish farm in Taiwan Province, according to his owner, surnamed Zhuang.

Three years ago Zhuang purchased a pair of newly-hatched ostriches as pets. The male was sent packing after pecking passers-by, but Zhuang took to the female after she started keeping him company while he worked.

When strangers approached, however, the ostrich would flap its wings and block the only entrance to the fish pool, together with Zhuang's dogs.

The ostrich has such a frightening reputation that Zhuang's neighbors joke they don't have to worry about security any more.
