In today's competitive automobile market, through consumer protection laws are the best way by which the government can defend the needs of customers. Earlier this month, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine made an announcement pointing out recent accidents with the Camry, Reiz and imported Prado, among other Toyota models. According to the AQSIQ, there have been several cases of wheel axles fracturing, brakes failing and loss of steering control, leading to both personal injuries and property damage. The news comes less than a year before the million vehicle recall Toyota previously made in the country.

However, officials from FAW-Toyota said they were only two instances of wheel axle fractures which were due to previous traffic accidents. According to Toyota's spokesman in Beijing, the manufacturer was already in the process of conducting a survey and refused to make any further comments.

Toyota's comments have yet to gain the trust of many on the Internet. Several website have been quoting a detailed report from Jiang Jianping, senior engineer and assistant head of the specialized team at the Fujian Zhongzheng Judicial Identification Center. The report, which took over a decade to complete, alleges that Toyota could not be unaware of the deficiencies.
