The traffic was resumed at around 1:16 pm, said a spokesman of the Beijing Subway Operation Co Ltd.

The accident was due to a protective trip in the electricity system. It triggered Line 1 subway traffic disruption between Fuxingmen station and Gongzhufen station, he said.

"The train is quite old. We already made a plan to replace old Line 1 subway trains in 2010," he said.
