BEIJING: Chinese shares closed lower Friday after rebounding more than 2 percent on the previous trading day, as financial and property shares remained weak.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 0.51 percent to close at 2,696.63 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index went down 0.84 percent to 10,330.14 points.

Total turnover shrank to 143.52 billion yuan ($22.56 billion) from 154.06 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 430 to 426 in Shanghai and 474 to 433 in Shenzhen.
