China cracks more drug trafficking cases

Chinese customs nabbed 2,119.2 kilograms of drugs during its crackdown on drug trafficking in 2009, a rise of 150 percent year-on-year, according to customs official.

The General Administration of Customs (GAC) said it busted 506 drug smuggling cases in 2009, up 34 percent year-on-year. It seized 553 suspects, 8.6 percent more than a year earlier.

The customs cracked 15 cases each involving more than 10 kilograms of drugs.

Some 255.86 kilograms of drugs were found in postal and express mails in 151 cases.

Baby diaper and auto axles were also used in drug trafficking, it said.
