The Shandong-based Laigang Group confirmed that Wang Hongjiu, an official in charge of iron ore trade at the group's subsidiary trading company is under investigation in connection with the Rio Tinto spying case, the Xinhua News Agency's website reported today.

Laigang is one of the 16 smelters that represent Chinese steel makers in iron ore price talks with international suppliers. It imported 10.19 million tons of iron ore in 2008, according to a previous media report.
