HK records HK$1.8 billion fiscal surplus

Updated: 2008-05-31 10:51 A surplus of HK$1.8 billion ($230.87 million) was recorded in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government's financial results for the first month of the current financial year, Hong Kong Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau said on Friday. The figure brings the Hong Kong government's fiscal reserves to HK$494. 8 billion. April saw HK$20.4 billion in spending and HK$22.2 billion in revenue, resulting in a surplus of HK$1.8 billion. The surplus was mainly due to collection of salaries tax, profits tax and stamp duties, the bureau said. The total government debts stood at HK$20.08 billion.
