Wang Xudong takes helm at SERC

 Wang Xudong

Wang Xudong was appointed chairman of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) at the SERC's interior meeting on April 30, replacing You Quan, Caijing magazine reported.

You Quan was appointed deputy secretary general of the State Council on April 8, and held the two positions concurrently as he waited to hand over the title to a new appointee.

Wang, 62, is a native of Jiangsu province. He was minister of information industry and appointed vice-minister of the newly-organized Ministry of Industry and Information in March 2008.

"Wang has rich experience in market regulation and is fairly suitable for the position," said a State-owned power group insider.

"We haven't received the official appointment circular from the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee," said an official surnamed Zhang at the SERC. You Quan is still on the SERC's official website as the chairman for now.
