The Mini Golden Week - the upcoming holiday period from May 1 to 3 - is set to witness less hectic travels as compared to previous years. This is because people are choosing to visit nearby destinations over international ones, reports Chinanews.com.

Since the Labor Day Golden Week Holiday has been shortened from 7 days to 3 days, it is no longer possible for people to go on long-distance vacations. According to a survey of 1000 citizens in ten major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xi'an, 44% of the respondents said they would like to "make a trip". More than half of the interviewees choose to travel to nearby suburbs instead of going overseas.
Among those who did not plan to travel, 60% choose to shop in their city. "Visiting relatives or friends" and "watching performances or movies" were the next most popular choices, while 30% of those not traveling said they would just relax at home.
10% of the interviewees said they would like to "continue to work overtime".
