AMD showcases innovations at annual forum

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) showcased on Wednesday its latest innovations in accelerated computing, graphics computing, mobile computing, desktop computing, enterprise computing and high-performance computing at its annual technology forum.

"AMD has become a provider with a complete set of platforms that combine computing processing unit, chipsets and graphics processing unit," said AMD Corporate Vice President Vanoy Wang.

The "harmonic computing platforms" optimized the functions of all its components, including processors, chipsets, graphics and achieved a "perfect balance" between processing power, power efficiency and visual experience, he added.

Nowadays, excellent entertainment and gaming experience has become a key requirement by computer users. Patrick Moorhead, AMD vice president of advanced marketing displayed his company's "overall leadership".

"AMD delivers the ultimate visual experience, scalable high-definition entertainment that spans HDTVs to handhelds to all PC price points," he said.

"Only AMD combines all the technologies needed to bring processing power to vibrant visual life," according to Patrick, adding that the platform is defined by what users see and experience and AMD is at the forefront again.

Good visual experience depends, in a large part, on the graphics processing power.

AMD enjoyed a competitive edge in graphics processing unit (GPU) and chipsets, David Nalasco, senior technical marketing manager of graphics product told the forum.

"AMD is the only company that can deliver a perfect balance of processing power and visual compute power for the best digital entertainment experience," he declare.

Incorporating a host of new technologies, such as cross fire, stream computing, catalyst software, AMD's ATI Radeon™ HD 3000 chip series are capable of providing excellent high-definition visual experience, David added.

The company also displayed its latest development in notebook platform.

David McAfee, senior product marketing manager of AMD Notebook Product Division elaborated on their four-step strategy in this field, from component optimization in 2005 to platform integration in 2006/2007 to platform optimization in 2008 which stressed platform-level performance and power optimization.

In the fourth step, AMD targeted accelerated processing unit in 2009 which aimed the silicon level integration.
