Eleven Chinese and Japanese firms, as well as some individuals, donated nearly 8 million yuan ($1.1 million) yesterday for the renovation of the Huangdi Mausoleum, according to Sun Tianyi, president of the Huangdi Mausoleum Foundation in Shaanxi Province.

China Datang Corporation, which donated 5 million yuan, is the largest donor and won the honor of paying homage to Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor) together with State leaders on April 4 this year, he said.

April 4 is the traditional Chinese festival named Qingming. It is the day when Chinese hold activities to cherish the memories of their ancestors.

Each year, Chinese from home and abroad arrive in Shaanxi to pay homage to Huangdi, the legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation, on behalf of more than 1.3 billion Chinese across the globe.

The Huangdi Mausoleum, situated in Huangling county of Shaanxi, is a sacred place for sons and daughters of the Chinese nation from home and abroad, and both officials and ordinary people have worshipped there continuously throughout the ages and dynasties.

Since the launch of the reform and opening up program three decades ago, the mausoleum has hosted grand, unprecedented worship ceremonies including Chinese from home and abroad, exceeding 500,000 every year recently, according to Sun.

Considering the soaring number of people attending the ceremony, the Huangdi Mausoleum kicked off its large-scale second-stage innovation project in 2003.

China Datang Corporation, one of China's five large scale power generation enterprises, was founded using partial power generation assets of the former State Power Corporation of China in late 2002. It is a solely state-owned corporation managed directly by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and is an experimental State Council authorized investment and state share-holding enterprise.
