The spring of two sessions and road of reform

The spring of two sessions and road of reformThere are other voices that are not loud, but deserve our attention. They tend to put "harmony" on the opposite side of "reform", as if efforts to push reform will upset the interest of parties that be and create conflicts and shocks, therefore leading to social discord.

To build a harmonious society, they seem to imply, we must slow down our steps of reform. The more extreme point of view: the current disparity in social income and regional development, and also the increasing social ills and corruption, are all results of 25 years of reform. To solve these problems, we have to turn back.

People with these ideas are so forgetful of all the poverty and feebleness in the era of planned economy. No wonder they tend to ignore China's unique situation and overestimate our economic power, and they want to use a high degree of welfare to solve existing problems in one easy swoop.

During the "Two Meetings" last year, our leaders reiterated the determination to keep on reforming, which was also endorsed by delegates and the society at large. This year, we expect to see more concrete actions of reform.
