The Zhejiang provincial government has dispatched a working group to oversee the handling of a high-profile post-operative death of a child in the city of Ningbo, Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday.

On Nov 14, a child surnamed Xu died after undergoing heart surgery at the Women and Children's Hospital of Ningbo University, an incident that drew widespread attention on social media.

The provincial government has since given the case high priority and sent a team to supervise follow-up measures. Ningbo city also deployed a working group to the hospital to continue the investigation, implement corrective actions and ensure normal clinical operations, the report stated.

The Tide news outlet reported that local government has launched a formal medical-accident technical appraisal and will convene domestic experts to identify any medical errors, as well as determining degrees of responsibility.

A medical-liability lawsuit filed by the family against the hospital has been accepted by a local court.
